Autoimmune diseases happens when the body produces an inappropriate immune response against its own tissues. Sometimes the immune system will cease to recognize one or more of the body’s normal constituents/parts as “self” and will create autoantibodies – antibodies that attack its own cells, tissues, and/or organs. Normally, antibodies help in attacking foreign bodies such as an infection, but in this case, the antibodies sees normal parts of the body as "foreign." This causes inflammation and damage and it leads to autoimmune diseases.

I hope I made it simpler for you.
