When ppl have anxiety/panic disorder, it is not uncommon for them to require a daily dose of xanax. I totally agree that for people who need it, it is not "abuse", although your body will develop a sort of dependence on it that would require a tapering off of dosage over time if you decide to discontinue the drug.
Some people are terribly bigoted towards people who have a legitimate need for any sort of psychoactive drug, including pain medications or psychiatric meds. I find this to be very annoying. Would they call a diabetic person "weak" or "addicted" if they use insulin every day? OF course not. But people do not understand brain related illnesses very well. Even many doctors might label you "squirrelly" or something if you need xanax. But...I would not.
I say, take the medication that you need, do not abuse it or sell it, never "lose" it and ask for a new script....and thank God that you have something that makes you able to function.
BTW, please make sure you don't have a medical problem causing you to feel "anxious" such as overactive thryroid.
