Studies have shown chicken soup to have properties that have made it effective as a remedy for the common cold and even cough, depending on how it is made and what ingredients have been placed in it. There has been no evidence to specifically single out penicillin as the antibiotic present although there have been some chicken soup preparations that have exhibited antibacterial properties. If your doctor prescribed you to take penicillin for an illness or ailment, you are better off getting it in a drugstore rather than consume bowls of chicken soup since the dosage that you would probably need would require a great number of bowls of chicken soup. You may take in chicken soup with the penicillin to help relieve you of symptoms but not as a substitute for penicillin.
