Hydrocodone for sore throat but it's not working.

I have had a severe sore throat since sunday night and today I went to the doctor to get a strep test. It came back negative but my doctor prescribed hydrocodone because I am in really bad pain. I took one today at 1:20 and it hasn't helped with the pain at all. I contacted my doctor via voice mail and the machine said that calls received after 4:00 may not be returned until the following day; it was 4:05 when I called. I am nervous to keep taking this medication if it really isn't taking away any of the pain. Has anyone else had this problem??

P.S I was taking Advil for the pain since Sunday night and that didn't help at all either.

It really depends on the strength of the medicine. What does the bottle say? It should say something like 5/500 or 10/500?

I am willing to guess it says 5/500. If that is the case 5mg is a very low dose of hydrocodone. If you are in that much pain you will need to take perhaps 10mg every 2 hours until you notice the pain to subside. the first 2 hours you should notice some relief and certainly after your second dose you should feel much better.
