How do I get off of Oxycontin I have 30 80's left, can someone suggest a taper schedule
I have 2 young kids and I am from Canada. I am too scared to go to the doctor and tell him about my problem because I think he might report me to childrens aid. Even though I do have a problem with oxycontin, I am a good mother. My kids are well taken care of and involved in many activities. But I think my doc would report me maybe because he'd legally have to. I'm not sure what the laws are regarding that. I really want to get off of them. I mean, I REALLY want off them but when I tried cold turkey it was awful. I could barely function and thats why I need to wean myself off them slowly. Since I'm too afraid to seek outside help doing this, I need to do it myself. I take about 30 mgs a day. How do I wean off of them and avoid the horrible withdrawals?

I wish you would involve someone in this. If not your doctor, your partner, a sister, a friend? You need to give the pills over, otherwise you may not have the self-discipline to taper. Also, if you do have good support, do it quick. I did it. It is awful, but you won't get a seizure or a heart attack from going cold turkey.

You need to see the doctor (as much as you don't want to hear it).
Withdrawl symptoms can be potential serious and can occur of a proper taper method is not used. There is also no way to divide up a tablet to taper it yourself, as they are time release coated. Cut or crushed tablets could result in a fatal rapid release of medication.
The laws very from state to state, but it's unlikely that Child Protective Services will take your kids from you for any length of time. Additionally, if your doctor has no reason to suspect child abuse or neglect, he's under no obligation to report you to CPS in most areas as no direct violation has occurred.
If you're dead set against going to the doctor's office, try contacting Narcotics Anonymous for some emotional support. They can help in many ways, from helping to reassure your concerns about seeing the physician, to helping keep you motivated to stay away from oxycodone in the future.

Also, as a word of warning, get rid of the pills before you see the doctor as they are a controlled substance and illegal to possess without a prescription. Your doctor may provide you with a prescription for that or a different medication to help wean you off the opiod dependency anyways.

Well tell me how long you were taking these things and I can give you an answer. Logically speaking, if you are getting them from your doctor tell him. I am going to tell you something. Anyone no matter who they are is going to get a problem with these things.
But here is what you need to do, the first thing you need to do is reduce your daily one time most dose you take, example if the most you take at a time is 20mg's, this is what you must cut. You must first cut the largest dose that hits your nervous system.
Stay away from Suboxone! Just get off this stuff , Suboxone is not going to help you unless you get it from a doc and than your really going to have problems. And why would your doc have to legally do anything, this is BULL!
Reduce that dose than every three days for the drug is voided out of the body every 72 hours. Get some vitamin supplements and take 3,000 or more of L-Tyrosine a day. And take immodium and hydrate yourself and take minerals.
I am not going to give advise on how to reduce the dose for these are 80's, but use your imagination.
BTW, I am sick and tired of people suggesting Suboxone. It is a difficult drug to wean off of and weaning but be extremely slow and down to the eighth of a milligram sometimes. Suboxone is not all what people claim it is and you will reall yhave some issue's getting off it. There are pharmacologist's that made the suggestion for people that could not wena of the last mg of sub to cut it with Heroin even. and the guy sleaves a website? If anything get some Methadone, 5mg's one day, reduced to 2.5 for the next two days three days after your last dose of oxycodone.

Hi Breesha I had a problem with oxycontin I was using 160 mg per day what I did was have my wife control the pills as I didn't have a doctor I could go to. I also live in Canada Ont. I started by cutting my dose by 5 mg or so however I also increased the time between doses slightly, that way my body got use to going longer and with slightly less each week. I was finally able to put them up best of luck

I agree with browneyedgirl. You got to have someone else involved to support you while withdrawing from oxycontin.
Most people usually try to taper either every few days or every week. Once every 2 weeks gives your body time to taper but it gets comfortable with the "new" cycle, which makes it harder to taper when the next 2 weeks rolls around.
As for the withdrawal symptoms, there are quite a number but most are manageable. The most annoying, based on patients' accounts, would be diarrhea which can be managed by medication.

Here is what you need to do If you are serious about quiting.
Ok Oxycontin is a great drug for those who NEED it, however it is being put down by people because of abuse and the FDA like Ephedrine once was for health problems.
To answer your question you need to get a pill cutter or if possible your medication into lower milligrams, which I doubt you want as you seem to be in a hurry, So if you research or search online benzodiazapine withdrawl it is one of the most hardest drugs to quit many say harder than narcotics.
So if you follow the cut down such as benzo's, say you take 1 mg a day, cut to 1.75 (with a pill cutter or even your fingers breaking a tablet) in a week to, for week 2, take 1.25, then week 3 go to .75 week, week 4 you go to .35 after that none. It is not easy it take self disciplinne and strength you have it, it is up to you how bad yo want it.
Take Care My Prayers are with You and all in these hard times, Trust I have my ow difficult problems too!

I read this is a great formula to get you through the wd's.
Best of strength, good energy and love to you!!
"PLEASE NOTE: I am not a doctor, simply a long-time Rx opiate junkie who has had many opportunities to develop a way to detox. This is a recipe for at-home self-detox from opiates based on my experience as well as that of many other addicts. It is not intended as professional medical advice. It is always wise to make sure none of the recipe ingredients or procedures conflict with medications you may be taking. Likewise, if you have any medical condition, disease, allergy or any other health issue, consult your doctor before using the recipe. Thanks, Thomas
THOMAS RECIPE
If you can't take time off to detox, I recommend you follow a taper regimen using your drug of choice or suitable alternate -- the slower the taper, the better.
For the Recipe, You'll need:
1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.
2. Imodium (over the counter, any drug or grocery store).
3. L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps) from the health food store.
4. Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium (you may not find the potassium in the same supplement).
5. Vitamin B6 caps.
6. Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available).
How to use the recipe:
Start the vitamin/mineral supplement right away (or the first day you can keep it down), preferably with food. Potassium early in the detox is important to help relieve RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Bananas are a good source of potassium if you can't find a supplement for it.
Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.
During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.
Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. Don't take it, however, if you don't need it.
At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.
Continue to take the vitamin/mineral supplement with breakfast.
As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.
Thomas"

Thanks
I came across your response angel12 in just randomly reading this forum and would like to say thanks.
I too have an addiction to opiates and find this recipe very helpful....
I would also like to add, some might disagree, that an occasional hit of some "mellow" weed might help a bit....(imo)
Take Care....
