Is Morphine ONLY used for pain
Or CAN it be used to calm a person down? Or are there any other reasons besides PAIN they use Morphine for, in a hospital?

It can be used to treat dyspnea from pulmonary edema not resulting from chemical respiratory irritant.

Morphine can actually be used in nuclear imaging of the gallbladder. Following the administration of a very small dose of morphine, there is contraction of the sphincter of Oddi and thus this allows for filling of the gallbladder with radiotracer due to increased pressure in the common duct, in other words, it allows us to shorten the time it takes to do a test to look for acute cholecystitis (a surgical emergency) and thus shortening the time of the examination without compromizing the accuracy of the results. This allows us to exploit one of the physiologic effects of the agent on the sphincter of Oddi.

In lay terms, it's used in diagnostic nuclear imaging of the abdomen.

Morphine is prescribed for pain usually after surgery or those with chronic pain conditions or cancer.
It is not given as an antianxiety medication however by decreasing pain the anxiety will usually subside.

Morphine should only be used for pain, but morphine slows down the heart rate, thus creating the effect of calming one down.

Well, I suppose you could use morphine for sedation, but it's not really done (at least not as it's primary indication) because there are more effective agents for sedation that have fewer side effects. So yes, morphine is pretty much used only for pain, the one exception I can think of is when it's used in nebulized form for shortness of breath on patients who are receiving comfort care.

I don't know but I do know that morphine is basically liquid endorphins. No wonder people feel as high as a kite when they are using morphine because it makes them feel so optimistic like they're untouchable!
