Grandmother dies because nurse give too much morphine
Even though my grandmother was 89 years old and not doing well, she went into the hospital because she was having trouble swallowing food. They didn't expect her to live too much longer, so they decide to give her morphine drip. I couldn't make it to see her that night. was planing to go the next night. I found out that she died and that she accidentally received 24hours worth of morphine in 1 hour. The nurses told all of the family members that were in the room to leave the room and they closed the curtain and had some discussions. They said she had to have toxicology report done. They tried to use the drug that reverses the effects of the overdose, but that didn't work. My parents are in their 70's and don't want to bother suing. do I have the rights since im the grandson? It's not the money or anything like that, it's the fact that I may have been able to see her alive one last time if that didn't happen and the hospital should not get away with that for it may happen again to someone else.

You are a family member, you have every right to sue, and you should.

First I'm sorry for your loss. Then I think it is about the money though, you want somebody to pay, you even said you want the hospital to pay. But why the hospital? It was a nurse who made the mistake wasn't it? She is human like you and me and no matter how much we try to be perfect we all fall short. I bet the nurse feels plenty bad already, don't you? You could probably sue if you went to a lawyer, but if you did, wouldn't you be risking alienating your parents? There was a reason they didn't want to sue. Sit down and write your grandmother a letter and tell her how you feel and how you miss her and anything else you would like to say. When you are done with it you should feel better and then do the symbolic thing and burn it, the way to send it to the other side. good luck
