Usually morphine does not raise your blood sugar. It has no sugar in it. I have looked everywhere trying to find one complaint of someones blood sugar raising after taking Morphine but have been unable to find one. I have taken Morphine for several years and found my diet effected my sugar more than my drugs.
"Morphine acts like a "Blood sugar are lowered because potassium and some sodium is alkalizing (provided that they don't put HALOGENS, such as chloride forms of potassium!) and it has a diuretic effect, but also, interestingly some water also goes to the stools and the body retains less water and hence the body is able to rid of sugar easier. "
Since this is they way Morphine acts it is very unlikely that is is the cause of the noticed blood sugar raises in your father

morphine is indicated for the relief of severe acute and severe chronic pain
usage of morphine can raise blood glucose level temporarily in some people
there are some cases where people take morphine after good lunch
taking morphine leads to sleep where blood glucose levels are raised.
note:the patients with respiratory problem shoud take low dosage of morphine
because medication may supress the respiration
