I read it could damage the liver because it has so much apap? I was on it for about 3 weeks. If it did any damage to my liver will my liver repair itself?
Hydrocodone + acetaminophen combination, when taken for a long time or in excessive dosage, can cause liver damage. Cells, whether in the liver or in any part of the body, can repair itself but only up to a certain extent. Better have a thorough check up & laboratory tests like ALT & AST levels (if possible, yearly, for the next 3 years) just to be sure.
It is true that hydrocodone may damage the liver. But this damage usually occurs when it is abused and taken at high dosages at extended periods. If ever damage occurred to your liver, usually slight in your case, it can definitely repair itself. It is only with those who have totally abused their liver that it cannot be repaired anymore.
