When on aspirin therapy what can u take for pain?
My dad just started taking an aspirin per day as suggested by his doctor. He knows that ibuprophen (advil, motrin) will interfere with the aspirin so what can he take to relieve pain? He forgot to ask his doctor and doesn't see him again for a few weeks.

You can pretty much take whatever you want, but don't take ibuprofen within two hours of the aspirin. I'm assuming he's not on other meds that would interact with either.

Read through this: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=80413

Also: http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/InfoSheets/HCP/ibuprofen_aspirinHCP.pdf

Probably the best idea: you may want to have him call his doctors nurse. He may have other conditions which may affect this advice, or the doctor may want him to avoid ibuprofen altogether and take Tylenol.

The aspirin itself can act as a pain reliever. But if the pain is quite severe, then the safest to take is tylenol or acetaminophen. Just do not take it with the aspirin.
