Morphine pills instead of intravenous?

The dad of my best friend has esophagus cancer. His doctor changed his morphine intake from intravenous to pills? But he doesn't have an infection, so he doesn't want to change it. Any thoughts?

Morphine pills are not as strong. He doesn't need it through IV if he is home. If he is in the hospital then they are trying to wean him off of it.
