While normally the THC test would indicate the use of a cannabinoid, here are a list of the substances known to cause false positives on THC tests:
Dronabinol (Marinol)
Ibuprofen; (Advil, Nuprin, Motrin, Excedrin IB etc)
Ketoprofen (Orudis KT)
Kidney infection (Kidney disease, diabetes) Liver Disease
Naproxen (Aleve)
Promethazine (Phenergan, Promethegan)
Riboflavin (B2, Hempseed Oil)
If he was using one of these, it is slightly possible that he would get a false positive on a screen.
If they did a confirming CGMS it would likely confirm whether or not he had used cannabis.
He might be able to ask for a retest if he avaoids the use of these substances prior to the test.
