Why does Tramadol help with my withdrawls if it's not a narcotic?
I've been taking up to eight Loratabs a day--exactly what my doctor has ordered. He also has given me Tramadol for my pain so that I can take that when and if I need to. I have come quite dependent on my Loratab. When I am waiting for my perscirption to be filled--sometimes it takes a few days, I usually take the Tramadol during that time. If Tramadol is not a narcotic, why does it help with my withdrawls from the Loratab? Is Tramadol addictive?

Yes tramadol is addictive. Beware!!! The pain-relief it gives is fab. I've been careful after accidently overdosing one day and feeling the effects, but I've read that the side effects of coming off it can be worse than the pain before it, can cause sickness, flu like symptoms, insomnia. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has been addicted to drugs.

It helps with the side effects of the withdrawl. Tramadol is not known to be addictive, it just mimics the codiene and "tricks" your body into thinking it is a loratab while still helping with the pain. How this helps---I took tramadol after a car accident so I wouldn't get hooked on painkillers again and I felt great and no pain and when it came time to stop---no withdrawls!

Who told you that Tramadol isn't a narcotic? It is....last year it was added to the Schedule II narcotic list by the DEA.

It is a opiate receptor and therefore helps you with withdrawal symptoms.
My concern though is if you are taking that many hydrocodone you should have know that your other medication was also a narcotic. You can verify this with your pharmacist. Tramadol is considered physically addictive but personally I have heard it both ways. I have taken tramadol but like you, I took much stronger medication at the same time, so I couldn't tell you if I was addicted to it or not, I tend to say I wasn't. You must also remember that their are 2 forms of addiction physical and mental.

I'm not trying to be rude when I ask you this, I promise....but why are you taking so many lortabs. If you need that kind of pain relief there are other, safer drugs to take long term.
I hope I wasn't out of line, just wanted to tell you incase your doctor hadn't, they are so weird about meds these days!!

Hope this helped ya!! :-)

Edit: I just read where someone said it is a natural substance!!
OMG , NO....it is the exact opposite, it is synthetic. Please talk to your pharmasist so that you get a correct answer, I cannot believe what I just read.

i have experience with this drug and it will mess you up if you take enough and it does actually help cause it is a pain killer but it can be abused as well--no it's not a narcotic you are right ...yes i believe tramadol can be addictive if you have that type of personality to abuse things cause it had a sedative effect on me cause i would take like 10 of them at a time which i am not recommending cause ihave got my problems under somewhat of control now but please be careful
