It doesn't help the blood flow, you need birth control meds or Ponstel to ease a heavy flow. Naproxen or Ibuprofen, anything in the NSAID family, are the best things you can take for period cramps though.
It will help with cramps, but don't take them unless absolutely necessary - try a heating pad first.
Pain Killers, especially prescribed ones, shouldn't be used at every glance of pain.
