The mass percent composition of ibuprofen, a headache remedy, is 75.69% C, 8.80% H, and 15.51% O?
Determine its empirical formula.

75.69 g C / 12.0107 g·mol-1 = 6.301 mol C
8.80 g H / 1.00794(7) g·mol-1 =8.730 mol H
15.51 g O / 15.9994(3) g·mol-1 =0.9694 mol O

6.01/ 0.9694 = 6 C
8.730 / 0.9694 =9 H
0.9694 /0.9694 =1 O

empirical formula C6H9O
