Ibuprofen is filtered through the kidneys. Vicodin contains the buffer acetominophen, or APAP, and they are filtered through the liver. If your kidneys are hurting, you might be taking too much ibuprofen. Ibuprofen was probably prescribed to you for inflammation. There are other NSAIDs(non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) you could take, but most of them are rough on the kidneys. If you are taking the ibuprofen to help treat your pain, you may want to see if your doctor could prescribe stronger medication, so you could take less ibuprofen.
