My 9 yo dog hurt his back leg coming up the stairs. What is the dosage for Ibuprofen or Aspirin?
How often? How long? He is a 40 lbs Dachshund. His leg is now curled up and will not put weight on it. Please Help!

Ugh, you can give aspirin to dogs!! My chihuahua ate a whole bottle and the vet said she would be perfectly fine, and she was! I would give him 1 every 4 hours or something along the lines of a small child dose. BUT you should try and call an emergency vet for a more specific recommendation and take him in tomorrow to see what's wrong.

NO! do not give him any human medication without consulting a vet first!

Many human medications are toxic to dogs, or can be toxic if given at the improper dosage. Why would you want to trust that to an answer from a stranger over the internet?

Keep your dog calm, try to keep him off the leg. You can apply ice to help reduce any swelling if the dog will tolerate you to do so.

Call the vet in the morning and make an appt to have him seen. He may have torn or sprained something.

a dog is like a person, don't administer any drugs to it without the advise of a physician.

it sound like it's pretty badly damaged if they wont put weight on it.

Go to the vet.

Almost all human medicine is TOXIC to dogs! Take him to a vet right away to get him some appropriate doggy drugs and treatment.

Get him to your vet as soon as you can, until then please don't give him ibuprofen! Aspirin is best for doggy pain, other meds can lead to kidney failure quickly. I had a wonderful dog, a jack russel, she was my baby and I treated her just as that, with children's tylenol because I knew not to give aspirin to babies I thought it would be bad for dogs too. I lost her within a week. No one can replace your best friend always seek the advice of professionals.
