12 Ambien/ Zolpidem/ Zopiclone: did I overdose
I only just realised but two days ago i appear to have taken 12 (!) of my prescribed Zolpidem 10mg

I don't recall doing this, i'm aware there are amnesia problems associated with this particular drug, having taken a couple extra some time ago in my sleep......
but I need to know whether or not I have done myself any permanent damage?
I feel fine, and wasn't excessively sleepy or drowsy yesterday, although i did wake up an hour later than usual.

My Blood pressure is fine, but obviously I am concerned.

Should i expect any serious effects?

They need to keep a check on your liver and kidneys. They can do blood tests for it. Medications are processed through the kidneys and liver, so that is where we see long term damage. You may be ok, but it is a good idea to get some blood work to check them..

As long as you do not have a repeat of this, then you should be fine. Since you did not have any side effects on the large dose that you supposedly took, there is the possibility that you did not take that much at all and just thought you did.

Just be observant of your symptoms throughout the day. If you feel something out of the ordinary, then you better go to your doctor. But if not, you're just fine.

Taking an overdose can affect your liver later on. Just try to avoid doing it in the future.

Hope this helps.

If you are still taking ambien, you need to stop taking it immediately!!!!

I had the exact same type of experience which presaged my accident and one (and only) night in jail---which I have no memory of because of the ambien.

It is one of the most dangerous drugs out there, more dangerous than alcohol, because of its pronounced amnesia. Eating, sleepwalking, sleep-driving all are not uncommon with that medicine. And if you crash your car and they blood test you'd face felony charges if you hurt somebody and if no one got hurt you'd still face OWPD (operating while under the influence of prescription drugs) at least in the state of Michigan.

Taking that many is a sign of tolerance. It is a warning sign. Talk to your doctor. Switch to lunesta, or trazadone if you have to. Just stop the ambien.
