Hello, i am going to take a plane trip in about 8 weeks from New Zealand to Australia and i am absolutely scared shitless even thinking about planes. I went to the airport today to drop my aunt off and i got scared and nervous and started sweating just from being in an airport! I've heard about a medication called Valium that will relax me and make me not scared but I'm worried about the side effects it will have on me. I heard you can get depressed if you take it, is this true? Also, will it cause vomiting because i have emitophobia (EXTREME fear of vomiting) and do not want to have even the slightest chance of getting sick from it. And how long will the Valium last? And can i take it if I'm only 14? Thank you in advance if you can help me!! Oh and the flight is about 3 hours.
Valium is a sedative and quite habit forming, which is the reason it is often prescribed for more serious cases. In your case of anxiety and fear of airplanes as well as of vomiting, you may want to ask your doctor about what is better to give you. Is the fear that great that you really need to take medications for it, especially that you are only 14?
Sometimes, it is better to conquer the fear first rather than take medications that will not cure the fear but add more problems to your body. I would suggest that you check with a doctor and even a counselor to check on your phobias and how to help you with it.
Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, constipation, blurred vision, or headache may occur...for more severe side effects over these you have to consult a physician immediately.
