if a gp after 5yrs of prescribing a medication suddenly stops prescribing-example: diazepam 10mg
isn`t the correct procedure to `reduce` the amount until off medication altogether please.

Yes it is, however the GPs first unforgivable error was to prescribe the drug at all!

not necessarily - depends on why it was precibed in the first place and the situation under which the decision was made.

We have to rely on the doctor. Doctor only knows what is best.

Yes.If youve been taking Valium for 5 years it needs to be tapered off slowly to get your body to adjust and to minimise side effects.
Tell your doctor this.If he wont listen then maybe see another doctor and tell them the situation.
I dont know how valium got such a bad reputation with people saying dont prescribe it etc.I in the past took almost every benzodiazapine that exists-valium, lorazepam, oxazepam, temazepam, clonazepam, alprazolam and i never got addicted to any of them although i understand maybe some people have more addictive personalities in which case its better to stick to natural stuff which can be effective too.

Firstly, there should be a reason to prescribe the drug to begin with.
Secondly, your doctor should have told you why they've stopped it; go back and ask.

Usually that's the way it should be.Take your meds and decrease it slowly but stopping it altogether would be the worst way to do it.
