Yes, they are prescribed by medical doctors--except "roofies" or rohypnol which is still legal in Mexico, for example, but not in the US due to its frequent appearance in date rape cases. Valium and Xanax are available by prescription only (unless you find an unscrupulous company or international rx-let over the web willing to mail them to you for a fee and then you take on a financial risk as well as a HUGE legal risk! b/c regardless of what anyone says about 3month importation laws, you MUST have a VALID US prescription to buy a medication from another country and NO internet consults for controlled substances (which all of these are) is NOT legal) usually prescribed for anxiety and panic disorder, but if a doctor thinks you are at a high risk for abuse of these drugs and/or knows you have a substance use history, they will usually NOT prescibe these things for you!
By the way, these drugs are benzodiazapines (all 3 of them). Most or all (except maybe xanax was from upjohn) were from the Roche company, and "roofies" otherwise know by the Roche name of Rohyphnol or the generic name of flunitrazepam is considered a "pre-operative sedative" and not generally available in any country for RX by a pharmacy to a patient. It is extremely strong and was replaced when outlawed in the US by a new drug from ROCHE much like it called "Dormicum" or generic name "midazolam" cheers
