Can you take Lithium and Xanax together
I have bi-polar, and I just wanted to make sure that there would be no adverse side affects. Thanks!

are you prescribed to take both of them? Those are two very dangerous drugs that slow your heart down. If you are supposed to take both, be careful and only take the amount prescribed.

There is no direct bad interaction between those two medications - although it's possible to have any one of one hundred rare side effects. So always be careful when adding one to another and don't start off taking both at night. Xanax tends to decrease respiratory rate and although lithium is not know to do this - it's always possible...so make sure you know how the meds interact with you body first.

Of course you can; it's done all the time.
Mood stabilizers, like lithium, are commonly taken along with benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin. Ativan).
If you ever have doubts about your medication, it's best to contact your psychiatrist (pharmacists are a good resource, too, but don't know your medical history). This is what you pay your doctor to do, after all.
If you have a psychiatrist who doesn't respond to such a call, you need to find a new one that will.
