Can the anaesthesia drug Ketamine cause blindness in animals?
My 4 month old Burmese kitten had to have chest X-Rays and she needed an extra dose of Ketamine to sedate her. This was 18 hours ago. She has woken up but cannot see. Could she still be coming out of the sedation or has she been permanently damaged.

There has been studies that show Ketamine affecting the eyesight, specifically the retina of animals undergoing anesthesia for surgery. It is a side effect of taking the drug although the permanence of it has not been fully established. It is possible that the effects are just wearing off. Consult your vet on what to do if the condition remains the same for several hours more.

Is she doesn't come out of it (regain her eye site) within 12-24 hours, Take her back to the Vet.
This usually does happen and after a day after a procedure requiring Ketamine. They will usually have glossy eyes, dry mouth, and walking strangely because they cannot see.
I'm sure she'll be fine.
I AM surprised that they used Ketamine instead of Diphenhydramine.
especially for a 4 month old.
Hoping she's okay!
