Could barbiturate use affect tolerance to other sedatives
I take fiorinal pretty regularly (probably about once a week on average) for migraines. Lately I've been having some issues with insomnia. This is probably irresponsible, I know, but the insomnia is bad and interfering with the rest of my life. People have given me ambien (whatever dosage a single pill is) to try to help one night, and valium on another night (7.5 mg), and neither one did anything. At all. What gives?

Using any type of sedative may increase tolerance after using for a while.
The fact that they remain in the body's system a bit longer than
other drugs may be the reason.
One may work and completely block out the other.
Let your Doctor know. I'm sure he can give you SOMETHING that
will not clash with the fiorinal.
Also, depending on what time you take the fiorinal, it may give
you problems because of the caffeine in it. Its not that much but
it also may explain why you have trouble sleeping. You may be more
sensitive to the caffeine than others.
Hope this helps.
