I became allergic to penicillin when I was in my 30's. I had severe hives for 9 days after stopping the medication. I eventually had to get a shot of adrenaline. I have not outgrown it. I wear a medical alert bracelet stating that I am allergic to penicillin. In case something happens to me I won't be given penicillin.

You absolutely have not grown out of your allergy to penicillin. In fact, every exposure will intensify your reaction. It is very important that you continue to tell your doctors that you are allergic to penicillin and that you are not given it or any of its derivatives.

allergic reactions do not disappear with age unlike other childhood diseases. due to the biochemical processes in the body they do not fade away.

penicillin allergies are especially important as each exposure makes the next reaction more potent. a mild allergic reaction initially may become lethal the next time. it is best to wear a medic bracelet or necklace with your allergy stated on it, your name and an emergency contact number in case your ever in an accident. all paramedics look for these bands before treating patients.
