Tetracycline side effects
I am taking tetracycline for skin problems. I have been trying for a while to lose weight, but what happens is I'll lose 7 or so pounds in a week and then gain it all back. Can tetracycline cause weight gain? I really need to know.

I haven't read or heard anything that says tetracycline can cause weight gain. If you'd look at the side effects of the drug, you might even say that it MAY cause weight loss since it can cause nausea, vomiting & diarrhea.

It may cause weight gain, depending on its effect on you. As with other antibiotics, prolonged use can affect the normal flora of the body's stomach, thus affecting the normal digestion of food, which in turn can cause weight gain.

If you really need the tetracycline to treat your skin problem, you may want to try to lose weight after the duration of the medication or switch to another antibiotic. Or you can try to maintain your body weight so as to not add to the number of pounds you need to lose after taking tetracycline.

Hope this helps.

simmilar
I started taking oxytetra about three years ago, i was always a 'racing snake' but shortly after i began to baloon. i went up nearly 3 stone over about 2 years. i genuinly believe that it is some part due to the medication. Obviously there are additional environmental factors and getting a bit older (spread) but my weight did change very dramatically. I have been gyming it recently & having a real diet kick & have shifted some but ive started on them again & its starting to pile on again (still gyming 3-4 times a week!)

I think its better to loose or gain your weight by doing excercise or taking diet food. Its good for your health.I don't think it will again help you to gain your weight.
