IM HER! is on a distinguished road
Tetracycline Medicine?
My dermatologist prescribed me the Tetracycline pills to help treat my acne. Well I've been taking them for a month now and they don't appear to be working. My skin hasn't changed.

My questions are:
1) How long does it take to start working?

2) What are some side affects you've experienced?

3) And how long should I be expected to take these pills?

How medications work depends on each individual. If it takes a month before working, then you may be taking the wrong dosage or it is just not right for you.

I suggest that you go back to your dermatologist for a new medication. Taking antibiotics for a long time may kill other good bacteria in the body, and even make you immune to it.

Hope this helps.

Another possible scenario is maybe the antibiotic dose is not enough. It's quite hard to give a definite period as to whether tetracycline will work for you or not since you didn't tell how much was prescribed and how severe your acne is.

A typical tetracycline regimen for treating moderate to severe acne starts with a dose of 500 to 1000 milligrams a day, which is decreased as improvement occurs. Long-term, low-dose tetracycline therapy may be continued for many months to suppress acne. Higher doses may be prescribed for very severe acne.

Now, if the dose given is enough for the type of acne you have and yet, there's no noticeable improvement over a long period of time, then you might want to consider another acne regimen.
