amoxicillin and diaper rash
My 11 month old has strep. She was given azithromycin on Wednesday, and today woke up with an itchy rash all over her body. I called the doctor, and he changed her antibiotics to amoxicillin. We started her on it today, along with Benadryl (doctor's orders) for the rash. Tonight, she has severe diaper rash. She's never had diaper rash before, and it is so painful that she screams when we try to wipe her or apply diaper cream. I'm calling the doctor again tomorrow, but has anyone else had this happen? I'm not sure if it is residue from the azithromycin, or if it is because of the amoxicillan.
The research I did said that most yeast infections start 5 days after the baby has been taking the amoxicillin. That is why I was curious if this had happened to anyone else sooner than that.

I'm not sure if the two are really connected or not, but I do know that one of the side effects of amoxicillin can be diarrhoea, which can cause some painful diaper rash.

yes my baby reacted to amoxicillin by getting a fiery red rash all over her body. So it could be from that or it could be from all the drugs in her little system. Good Luck

It could be lots of things, but don't forget yeast infection from antibiotics. It is a fungal infection. In women, it is a vaginal infection. It is the same fungus that causes thrush, athletes foot, and jock itch. In babies, it can be a diaper rash, along with a discharge from a baby girl....when it comes out, it gets all over the skin...

Antibiotics are necessary sometimes but do kill of all the living bacteria in the body, both those making us sick, and those that don't. In the case of candida fungus, bacteria are needed in the system to keep the candida from running amuck.

Ask doc for a prescription for Diflucan for her, or get a recommendation for a cream or suppository for her.
