Drinking Alcohol after being given a dose of Zithromax

I was diagnosed with chlamydia by my doctor and given 2 tablets of Zithromax to take with a meal. He said to wait a week to have any sexual relations. How ever he did not say anything about drinking alcohol, the day i took the Zithromax i had 1 beer which i dont think would have much effect but this saturday night (1 week after taking Zithromax) i am planning to drink alot. I am not sure if this will maybe prevent the drug from working or not. Help would be greatly appreciated. thankyouu!

Zithromax and alcohol is generally not a very good idea and could pose risks.

The reason for this is Zithromax is metobolized in the liver just as alcohol is. In addition, do not take Maalox or any other magnesium based products / antacides while taking zithromax.
