Ear infections and antibiotic problems! Allergic to amoxicillin
My son who is almost 2 is allergic to any meds of the amoxicillin family. Does anyone know another option that isnt going to be hard on him. Hes tried Zithromax but that is so tough on his tummy. When he first had amoxicillan he broke out with bumps all over and got sicker. Then this stupid pediatrician argued with me that it was normal and that he was not allergic to it, i told him i didnt want him on anything that was part of the amox family, and he proceeded to give him a knock off amox and he got very sick, vomiting, and such. SO im looking for something that is mild, works, and no part of the amox. He has an appointment this morning. THANKS!!

I bought my son over the counter ear drops..Other than that you can see about getting tubes in his ears if they are seriously that bad.

Antibiotics often clear up a bacterial ear infection. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic often chosen for treating ear infections. It works well and costs less than other brands.

Doctors sometimes prescribe antibiotics to prevent infections in children who are prone to repeated ear infections.

@ellencannon: If you read the thread starter's post, it was mentioned that the patient seems to be allergic to amoxicillin. It is given that amoxicillin is the first drug of choice in cases of ear infections but there's no point in mentioning it if the patient cannot take it in the first place.

@jess_n_flip: In cases where the patient with ear infection is allergic to amoxicillin, azithromycin (which is a much stronger antibiotic) is the next choice. However, you might want to ask the pediatrician if the patient can take erythromycin instead to replace amoxicillin.
