take some ibuprofen, and if the pain gets worse call them and ask for them to call in some pain medication. most dentist will call it in. and I'm sure they have an answering service for weekend emergencies

take ibuprophen. call the dentist and ask them to tell you how many ibuprophen are safe to take, because it is normally more than the bottle says. also, some dentists might call in a perscription pain killer. you can also put ice indirectly on your cheek to reduce the inflamation. the penicillin will work but it will take time. i feel for you as i have been there. it is the worst pain i've ever experienced, but take my word on it and call your dentist... cause when i did mine told me to take like 800 mg ibuprophen and that finally worked for me.

Because there is an infection, you would need more painkiller to affect the inflamed area. Seeings how it is dangerous to take more then the recommended dosage without a Dr supervision, its time to think non medication tricks to add to using the medication.

A heating pad is my choice when i had my wisdom teeth coming in and when they were pulled.
If you don't have one my recommendation for making one is this, take some rice and salt, and heat it using a frying pan. DO NOT ADD WATER. The dry rice and salt will maintain the heat for a while. Place the mix into a clean sock and you have a heating pad. This is good for helping bring down the infection.

antibiotics take 3 days before you gain noticeable effect or relief. if ibuprofen or NSAIDs doesn't work, you can ask you dentist if you can take Tramadol instead (only if really unbearable). this is wat we dentists call our last resort when it comes to pain killers. of course, you still have to complete the entire antibiotic course recommended by your dentist.
