yes, over a decade ago.

it will make you resistant to the effectiveness of that medication (which will suck in case you need it for a different, maybe more urgent problem).

the thing is it only works as long as you take it; it won't change your biology.

i think the use of long term antibiotics for acne is irresponsible.

most of the products that work involve some risk, though. go to www.acne.org to see what other people have done, and what their experiences iwth the different treatments are.

i had cystic acne for a long time (used to always have one or two going, if not more), blackheads, and occasional whiteheads.

tried antibiotics and other more invasive topical creams.

my best results so far came from ordinary beauty wash that has salicylic acid in it, but seems to be ph balanced so doesn't irritate... everything's been so much improved since then. (oil of olay, clarify daily cleanser)

highly recommend reading up on this for yourself - that acne.org website is a good place to start.

I was on them for about 6 months, and they did a great job, but i was worried about antibiotic resistance so i went onto creams after that. They were very efficient, but tasted disgusting if you got a broken one or one with powder on, so have them with lots of OJ or other juice!
They shouldn't cause problems, but if you don't want to be on them that long, go to your doctor when you want to come off them and they'll give you creams to replace them, or a different tablet to take

doxycycline works better and if you are femail with erythromycin go ahead and plan for yeast infections. 18 months is a really long time for antibiotics too.... I would look into other forms of treatment. Your body creates normal bacteria and sometimes gets out of control which is why we get infections. Antibiotics heal those over a short time, so I am confused as to why 18 months would be a regimin.

That does seem like an awful long time to be on an antibiotic. My sister used it and it worked for her - but not for that long. Make sure you eat yougurt regularly. Best of luck. Ü

I took Erythromycin for acne for a few months...it really does help but I had to stop taking it because it worsened my IBS symptoms. It takes a while for it kick in so be patient...and no, using an antibiotic like e. will not cause any long term problems (do be on the watch for yeast infections though).
