How long will side effects last? Erythromycin?

Hi - had a throat infection last week and on Wednesday doc prescribed Erythromycin. Within a day started throwing up & had diarhoea.

Saturday went back to docs and they said it was prob a side effect (never had that anti-biotic before). Put me on penicillin, which have never had a problem with.

However, while sickness stopped, still have diarhoea! No pain, no fever. Have stopped penicillin, on Monday eve took last tablet. Today - STILL upset tummy. How long til the anti-b's get out of my system?

Doc (on phone) said my systems prob out of whack and to 'bulk up' stools with fibre etc. but no timescale given

Problem is, leaving on DRIVING holiday on Sunday! If still unwell then, will be an AWFUL journey! Ideas?? Thanks!

eat 2-3 small containers of probiotic yogurt each day.

in addition to your regular diet make a mixture of romain lettuce, tomatos, cucumbers, onions, garlic, mushrooms which will bulk up your stool and detoxify. Eat a bowl of this once per day.

There's no exact number of days as to how long before the side effects from erythromycin last. I found this info that might help:
" Yogurt containing Bifidobacterium longum culture has decreased erythromycin-induced diarrhea in a single-blind study of ten healthy people. Yogurt containing live cultures has also protected against other antibiotic-induced diarrhea."
