Stye will drain spontaneously within 3-4 days following pointing, especially if external. Conservative treatment with frequent warm compresses is often successful, but steroid injections into the chalazion or surgical removal are sometimes necessary. Warm compress is done 4-5 x / day for 10-15 min per session essential to help open pore and promote drainage. As for antibiotic treatment, erythromycin ophthalmic ointment (E-mycin, Eryc) are usually prescribed where 0.5-inch is applied into conjunctival sac 2 to 4 times a day for 7 days or sulfacetamide 10% ophthalmic ointment. Of course, this should be done if the doctor prescribed you to do so.
