Low doses of drugs more commonly used in the treatment of seizures and epilepsy like Tegretol are sometimes used to help people who have low back pain in conjunction with leg pain. These drugs aren't usually useful in treating low back pain, per se. Instead, they're sometimes directed at treating the leg pain component in people who primarily have back pain associated with leg pain.

Pain due to back problems can takes a substantial psychological toll on patients. There can be a reinforcing cycle in which chronic pain commonly leads to depression. Antidepressants like amytriptiline, nortriptiline, imipramine are useful in treating depression associated with chronic back pain.

I haven't tried those .
I had sciatica for over a year--non-stop pain and Tylenol 3 combined with Robax Platinum helped...every 3 hours--tho not the best for liver to take those T3's...it did stop the pain.

I went for acupuncture and that did nothing.
The chiropractor might be able to help you--I couldn't afford to see one and my medical insurance did not cover one..

I have seen ads on TV for the Low Back Pain Clinic--maybe there's one in your city that specializes in treatment of this pain you are suffering. Might be worth a try.

Is the pain going down into your right leg too?
If so--that is a sign of sciatica and it just kinda has to work it's way out.
I was very surprised about how very little information there was on the net and with my doctor to get rid of that sciatica...
I suspect it was actually caused by something viral because I'd taken note that there was a real influx of people all around me who also had this sciatica at the same time as me...very strange. I can't recall having done anything extranious...and one day--it was just there--full blast agony.

I'm a very physically fit person-always have been--and one day-it was just there ad a situation I had to endure for a year...and, like I said-one day, it went as suddenly as it arrived--the pain.

Maybe I was susceptible due to some low immune system-I don't know...but very few things eclipse the pain and inconvenience of a lower back pain.
One day-I woke up and the pain was gone...but it took around a year
to go.

Exercise really helped me-once I took the Robax and T3-to get rid of the pain--I did a lot of exercise.stretching helped too--I had lost a lot of my flexability (to touch my toes)and gained that back eventually..someone here mentioned Yoga--You *might* wanna give that a try--(though I didn't do that...tho I can't give an honest opinion if/if not that works)

I'm sorry you're in pain. Back pain can be so debilitating and interfere with your mood and --well everything. :-(

I hope you feel better soon.
