I'm epileptic and I used to be on Tegretol. While I don't know how long it stays in the blood I can safely say that you should NEVER miss a dose.

Well, I don't agree with the term Retard, someone very close to me takes anti-seizure meds and is by no means a retard. Anyway, it would stay in your system for 72 hours, but you should never miss a dose if you truly have seizures, because it is the levels of it in your body that are important when it comes to seizure meds, after the first day the level would decline drastically, and it all depends on how sensitive your body is to the medication, and how much you need to prevent seizures.

Tegretol retard or Tegretol XR works with its peak rate at 3-12 hours after administration. That's why its usual dose is twice a day or every 12 hours.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose (which would be almost 12 hours from the supposed missed dose), skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time.
