Can phenobarbital contribute to making a weiner dog overweight?
He's been taking it for seizures (which he hasn't one since luckily) but it seems like he's getting heavier, are they correlated? i know I need to control his food intake better too. He's a weiner dog and I don't want extra weight to take a toll on his back
He eats Canidae, used to eat 1 cup a day, but now I have him on 3/4..and some treats a day which I should probably cut out. He does seem more tired.I see my vet in a week for blood work check up I will ask.

It could possibly be partly responsible. I know it has these effects with humans.
If your dog isn't getting enough exercise that will contribute as well.
Its good to exercise (walk) for AT LEAST 30 minutes to 1 hour a day.
This is not only good for his weight but for over all well being. Mind, body, soul.
You do need to worry about him gaining too much weight because yes, it can do harm to his back and everything else. Heart conditions can arise too. Along with lung/breathing problems.
How old is he? What's his weight?
An older dog would benefit from a "Senior" dog food or 'less active'
These will also help with weight control.
Good luck with your pup!
