Does every patient on carbamazepine for epilepsy requires routine monitoring of their carbamazepine level?
Or is there an exception where there is no such need?

Yes, all patients on carbamazepine do require blood level monitoring. This is because if the level of the drug in your system is not at the therapeutic level the drug will not have the desired results....ergo, you may have seizures. If the level is too high you could become toxic which can be very dangerous and even life-threatening. Have your levels done and be safe.

May I add that the therapeutic blood level during treatment is 6-12ug/ml. Monitor also the liver function tests (SGOT), and urine function tests (BUN, and urine protein) during treatment because one of the side effects of this med is albuminuria or protein in the urine, which is not good for the liver.
