Do you Take CARBAMAZEPINE for seizures?
I am just wondering what to expect from this drug, I don't usually take medicines, not even pain killers when I have a headache, but I have been recently diagnosed with epilepsy, and I an worried about taking the medicine. Can you please tell me if you have had any side effects, even minor if any, thank you! Liz
Other names for the Drug are
Tegretol and Epitol

any drug is having its side effects . this drug can cause drawsiness . but believe my all of its side effects are nothing compared to what can epilepsy do for your health.
i advise you to take it regardless of its side effects.
if you became epilepsy-free for 2 years , i am sure your doctor will tell you to stop the drug.

i have epilepsy, too... MY doctors recommend me to use phenobarbitals.

Carbamazepine is in a group of drugs called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing nerve impulses that cause seizures and pain. Carbamazepine is used to treat epileptic seizures and severe nerve pain of the jaw or cheek caused by a facial nerve problem (trigeminal neuralgia) and diabetic neuropathy. It is also used to treat bipolar disorder.

Serious side effects:
*ever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
*pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
*white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips;
*feeling short of breath, swelling of your ankles or feet;
*nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or
*urinating less than usual.

Less serious side effects:
*feeling dizzy, drowsy, or unsteady;
*vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain;
*confusion, headache, blurred vision;
*ringing in your ears;
*dry mouth, swollen tongue; or
*joint or muscle pain, leg cramps.
