Fluoxetine (Prozac) advice.
I've just been put on prozac to try and beat my depression. The side effects seem rather extreme, should I take them or not.

I have been on Prozac for about 8 years, well on and off but mainly on(!!) I don't know what I'd have done without them. I'm coming off them finally and to be honest I'm finding the withdrawls a little difficult to cope with but nothing compared to the extent of the depression I have been feeling over the years. The only advice I could give to you is to take them if you feel you need a little breather from your emotional discomfort, and to gain some strength. I know how wearing depression can be. However it would obviously be better to clarify the root of your depression and deal with that sooner rather than later. Look after yourself and do what's right for you. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for taking them either. BTW the leaflet is scary when you read about all the side effects, but I didn't get any of them as far as I can remember, and if you are feeling uncomfortable when taking them, go straight back to your GP. Best of luck x

If it is prescribed by your Doctor, of course keep using it but let the doctor know for any changing that you might feel odd. In other hand you need to cooperate with your depression in very nice way be gentle with yourself and always think positive even if things around you are all negative. And remember you are not the only one who is depressed, anybody goes through depression but the key is how the individual cooperate with his or her issues. Some of us are sensitive and some are medium in sensitivity and some are senseless. So, be the best friend of yourself and treat yourself right and try to do things that contribute in changing others' people life who are worst than you.

I have taken Zoloft and Lexapro. I noticed less side effects with Lexapro thank with Zoloft. I am not kidding--if you really want to cope with depression try mushrooms. I only took it once but the psilocybins are known to have positively affect mood disorders. If you live in California, maybe a doctor could prescribe marijuana which also really helps with depression better than any of these drugs. I say this as someone who copes with depression. These things have worked for me.

The side effects listed on the leaflet are possible side effects, not things that happen to everybody. Try them and if you find they are either not working for you or are effecting you in a way that you don't like then go back to the doctor and ask to be put on something different.

well what exactly are the side effects? add details and i will edit =]

i think basically go to your doctor immediately if they are really bad, only he can inform you how to come off of them or reassure you that the effects are normal.

remember that in the first 2 weeks its common to get a few side effects, but it depends on the nature of yours.

good luck beating depression =]. x

how bad are the side effects? are they unbearable? if so, then you should stop! usually prozac for males cause them to lose sleep and does the opposite for females.
I have been on prozac for a while now. When you first start you might get some minor side effects, but they usually go away.

I'd say give them a try. You might not have a problem with side effects - some people don't. Try them for a few weeks, but if you have really, really severe side effects that last longer than a week (like vomiting, severe headaches, constant sleeping) then switch onto a different anti-d.

hi, i am on prozac, they have to tell you about side affects in case it does happen, and they didn't, which is highly unlikely it ill happen, i am on prozac, and i don't have ny side affects at all, they are very good, but another thing you need to think about, is that, medication, is only a short term solution, wouldn't you rather work on the issues that are making you depressed, as i feel this Will make you digress, rather than progress, as you will have to be weaned off them one day, and when you do, your problems will still be there

Well do some research into it by un-biased scientists. Get a good overall view of the medicine.

Would you rather commit suicide from depression or have a few side affects? It's your choice.
