So very sorry about your Mom. Sadly though you cannot get anti-depressants without parental consent. Would an aunt or other adult friend you feel comfortable sharing your dilemma be willing to talk to your Dad. Seriously though, I don't think your Dad will feel any less of you, or that your a failure, the suck it up routine. If he is that type, he is dealing with issues himself, and it is imperative you entrust this to an adult on your behalf.

My friend I must say to you antidepressants can sometimes only work on 40% of the ppl who take them. Your best weapon to battle depression is communicating it with those you love. Talk to a therapist, your father, your friends. Stay active and keep your attitude positive!!!!!! Antidepressants turned me into a zombie.....and my brother?? His body did not absorb them correctly so after about 8 different drugs, we discovered it was all being stored in the fat cells in his brain. He almost DIED from neurotoxicity. There are far better solutions than drugs.

Did you know that in Europe, most psychologists prescribe natural herbs as antidepressants? The drugs just make it worse. Look for different solutions. Its hard but you will be so much happier. Trust me I wouldnt be saying this if I thought drugs were good. Best of luck to you my friend

I'm not sure what state you're in but in NYS you can request psychiatric services for yourself at the age of 13 so first find out if in your state you can request them for yourself. Second if you're not in therapy you should start that first to see if anti depressants are what's needed. You shouldn't just use anti-depressants with out the help of a therapist and a psychiatrist if they aren't the same person. IF you're not old enough to request services for yourself than you'll have to let your father know what going on. As a parent I would be surprised to find out that your father wouldn't want to know what's going on with you. You're his daughter and I'm sure that he only wants the best for you. Don't under estimate him and think that he wouldn't want to be bothered or that you're going to worry him more than he already is. That's not the way that parents act especially those of us whom are single parents.
