If you are bi-polar, will doctors give you antidepressants
I was told that I can't go on anti-depressants because I am bi-polar, and that it might flip me into a state of mania. However I feel that the current mood stabilizer I am on (Lamictal) is not helping me at all.

I want to try antidepressants but my p-doc refuses. I thought that bi-polar people CAN take antidepressants, but that the mood stabilizer (Depakote, Lithium) already helps prevent mania?
I mean, I thought that a mood stabilizer will help prevent mania if you are bi-polar and taking an antidepressant.

Why is my doctor refusing to give me antidepressants?

I took lamictal and zoloft. I was diagnosed with bi-polar tendencies and mood disorder, as well as panic attacks and ocd, but anyway. I am pretty sure that you could be prescribed something with the lamictal. I know take abilify and paxil. They seem to be working for me. I am doing better on abilify than I did on lamictal. There are many different meds out there and many doctors. sometime you just need to find the right one of each that work for you. I saw two psych doctors before I found the one that I have now been with for over a year and a half. I know its hard sometimes to find that right doctors let alone the right meds, but maybe you need a new doctor. best of luck.

Yes. You can take some but there are a few that you do not need to take together. It sounds as if you should be changed around maybe to Depakote or Lithium to see if one of these may work better for you. Also sounds as if your Doctor is Not listening to you with having his mind so set and you NOT feeling better with what he has prescribed.
Are you willing to find yourself another Doctor? If so, please do.
