I do research on ALL medical issues since 1993 and the suicide rate from these drugs are extremely high!
Depression IS ALWAYS an emotional problem NEVER a physical one unless your hormones are really messed up like after women give birth. Even then hormone balance meds or supplements would be the cure NOT and NEVER anti-depressants.
Anti-depressants cover up the source of the problems you have and they get bigger and bigger.
These drugs train you to RUN from your depression instead of confronting it.
Here's how I feel about depression.
1) Depression is THEE path to go down in order to find true happiness because the lessons you need to find happiness are WITHIN the depression. Happiness is the fruit inside of depression!
2) Did you know that people are more depressed about being depressed than the original reason they were depressed about in the first place?
3) Depression is like a storm on the sea. Ask any ship's Captain and he will tell you when confronted with a storm he will go directly AT the storm because if he doesn't it will last much longer.
4) Train your brain that depression is good because of the things you will learn about yourself and look for little successes that make you feel good within the depression.
5) FYI mental illness caused by chemical in-balance is NEVER the cause of depression. Our opinions of situations in our lives are the cause of depression.
6) Severe depression is an opportunity for greatness! It is like a piece of coal that is crushed in the earth for many years because those that realize that depression makes you dig deep in your soul is your best friend because after you go through this WITHOUT backing down you become a genius! BTW that piece of coal one day becomes a FLAWLESS DIAMOND!
Tools for beating depression:
1) Understanding structure of depression weakens it:
Depression is only memories of pain we had which was born from our opinions about something that happened. As an opinion of discomfort is made a negative emotion is created. As this keeps on happening we become crushed by stress and then any positive ideas that come in gets crushed too because a few positive thoughts CAN'T compete with emotions that are so negative. So these clusters of negative emotions IS the depression storm!
2) Finding the ingredients of depression.
ALL people when depressed NEVER know why they are depressed as it's happening. There might be a situation that triggered it,but there are hidden things that are actually causing the depression not the original situation.
Example: Say I just found out my girlfriend cheated on me. The negative thoughts and feeling race so fast you can't keep up with them and your brain shuts down your positive imagination because it can't see past the storm of negative emotions.
These emotions can be from: feeling the loss of love, feeling like you are not important as a person, feeling like you were a stupid fool, feeling like you have NO future for happiness because in your head you linked her love as the only way for true happiness!
You see these are all little decisions you made about your life,but it was triggered by her actions.
Happiness independence and knowing the source of unlimited happiness is the key. First of all people can give you happiness,but you MUST rely on yourself ONLY for long term happiness!
So the above was an example on how to track your emotions as you analyze them and then you find the little opinions you had about your situation that you don't remember you made.
3) Breaking down the depression:
Separate all thoughts and ideas about the depression. Get a blank piece of paper and start writing down things you are upset about and write about and try to explain and identify feeling you have. Then unknown negative feelings will appear too. Write about them and search for opinions you had about them in the past.
4) Take a break every once in a while:
Even if still feeling bad relax and try to watch something funny like seinfeld. Laughing is like a clutch on a manual transmission car. It releives pressure until you are ready to fight again..
5) There are a certain number of things bothering you. IT IS NEVER ENDLESS! It might seam like it will last forever,but this negative storm has only so many raindrops!
6) Replace every little negative emotions with a positive emotion. This is done whenever you see emotions come directly at you. It's like a fast ball in baseball. As you break down reason why you are upset change your opinion to a courageous attitude about that situation. Say to yourself,"I will get stringer from this" or " I will NEVER let this get me down!" This creates positive emotions that replace the negative emotion.
7) Lastly you can NEVER THINK your way out of depression! The ONLY way out is to feel your way out by replacing negative emotions with positive emotions because positive thoughts are not strong enough to fight negative emotions until they become positive emotions. Positive emotions though can fight and beat depression.

PS. A quick relief of depression is to look for ways to help others with their depression or to look to help people in general. When you help someone your self worth goes up immediately!
Edit: FYI even a psychotic person with schizophrenia that's depressed is NEVER depressed because of the mental illness! They are depressed because of attitudes they have about thier situation. Depression IS ALWAYS a decision! It's just that it's a decision that we didn't know we made.
