Hyperkalemia is higher than normal levels of potassium in the blood.
As for thiazide, a diuretic ACE Inhibitor, the medication could
increase kidney function which flushes potassium. But, it can also impair kidney function *(decreased urine output) which will cause elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia).

1. KIDNEY DISORDERS (acute and chronic) the kidneys normally excrete excess potassium. Can include Adrenal gland disorder.
2. CELLULAR: destroyed cells dump potassium in blood stream.
---Tissue destruction from trauma and/or burns
---Drug use & alcoholism (chronic)
3. MEDICATIONS: ones that decrease potassium excretion
----ACE inhibitors: controls blood pressure
----NSAIDS: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (i.e., aspirin)
4. POTASSIUM SHIFTS: normally associated with diabetes complications from lack of insulin.
