HAs anyone ever taken Nifedipine to stop contractions
I am 33 weeks. The Dr. prescribed nifedipine every 8 hours to stop contractions. HAs anyone ever taken this medicine for that? Does it work? Thanks for your advice!

I have not personally taken it, but as a nurse who works with high risk pregnant women, especially hospitalized ones, we use it alot. It's one of those things where if you're trending towards preterm labor and have an extra-irritable uterus, the nifedipine can work to calm it and keep you from tipping over that edge and going into labor. But if your body decides it's just gonna happen, then no medication will truly work to stop it. This just gives you that little extra help, which may or may not work.

Good luck! Rest assured, at 33 weeks, although premature, if delivered today your baby would do just fine after a few weeks of stabilization and feeding and growing.
