Default ace inhibitors for heart failure

My father has been diagnosed with severe heart failure on the left and right side with lung and some liver damage also,
his specialist is awaiting the results of his lung function test to decide what kind of ace inhibitor to prescribe.
I have read abit about them but on some web pages it says that treatment is usually started in hospital has anyone any knowledge of this in the uk?

Ace inhibitors may be started while the patient is in hospital in order that the doctors can regulate the dosage given and monitor its effects on hypertension and arythmia. Usually used in conjunction with a diuretic which also aids a weak heart by flushing out of excess fluids around the chest area which have gathered due to the heart being weak.

My mum has CHF, a weakened and enlarged heart she has been prescribed Ace inhibitors and also takes Bumetaninde (diuretic) to release fluids gathered on her lungs and in her legs.... the build up of fluid prevents the lungs expanding to full capacity I believe thus at times she suffers breathlessness which can be quite alarming.

Proper use of the drugs alleviate the symptons almost immediately and mum appears a lot calmer and is able to get some restful sleep these days.

Although the side effects stated in the packet terrified her, I eventually was able to reassure her that the tablets would help and that the side effects were pointers to look out for and not necessarily what she would get.

I hope your father makes giant leaps towards recovery and a much more comfortable state of health, God bless.
