Brain Tumor Chemotherapy
Hello. My boyfriend had a cancerous brain tumor (medulloblastoma - rare in adults) removed two weeks ago, the surgery went well and they've removed most of the tumor what they could, but there is still a small amount left that they could not remove because it was close to the brain stem, he's going for chemotherapy in a couple of weeks. How successful will the Chemo be removing the last cells of the tumor? Im so worried. Thankyou xx

80% of these patients who receive a combination of chemo and radiation survive 5 years. How well he does depends on how well he responds to treatment. Prognosis also depends on the cytogenetic profile of the tumor, if there are any desmoplastic features, if there is any CSF, spinal, supratentorial or systemic spread and if the resection was adequate.

The best thing you can do is to keep a pad of paper near by and write down every question you have when you think of it. After treatment has begun your boyfriend will have an MRI so the doctor can see how the tumor is responding. Take this pad with you when he has the appointment with the doctor to go over the MRI findings. At this point the doctor will have a better idea of how your boyfriend is doing and to answer your questions with more certainty. I hope all goes well. Best wishes to you both.
