Chemotherapy question?
My boyfriend's dad had his first chemo session about 2 weeks ago. He was due to have his second one yesterday, but when he turned up to hospital on thursday he had to be put in a drip cos something happened to his kidneys.

He was due to leave hospital today as his kidneys had improved, but my boyfriend's mum has just texted him to let him know that he now needs a blood transfusion.

Has anyone here/anyone you know been through this? I want to know

1. What happened with his kidneys?

2. Why would he need a blood transfusion?
Thank you Doren, and I'm sorry you've had to go through losing loved ones.

I forgot to mention that he has stomach cancer, not kidney cancer.

We'll see if we can visit today, depending on whether it will be allowed and he will be in the ward (the hospital is very far) otherwise we'll have to ask when they come back tomorrow (he is being discharged tomorrow hopefully)

Cancer is a disease that affects the entire body, and not only its supposed affected part. It may be that he had a reaction to the chemotherapy or that his body, specifically his kidneys, cannot take the added work brought about the medications. He may need a blood transfusion because he may be losing blood because of his cancer and to be able to keep his blood levels within normal range, he needs to have a blood transfusion.

I hope he gets better soon.
