when I had chemotherapy my mouth tasted like I was sucking on a penny for months... very metallic tasting. I didn't have any appetite but would try to drink a little milk and have a few bites of rolled up turkey breast just so I would be getting some protein which is so important to keep your strength up so your friend could try just offering her a bite or two at a time with a little milk.... it's better than nothing and she might tolerate one or two bites better than a meal at one time. I had to make myself eat those few bites but I knew I needed to so maybe she will be willing to try. She needs her strength to fight the cancer so explain to her that it really isn't optional to take in some nutrition. If she is really not eating and drinking enough then try some of the liquid meal replacement drinks they give to nursing home patients like Ensure. They are very nutrient dense for the amount you drink and would help supply what she needs without having to eat if it irritates her.

-have her ask the doctor for magic mouth wash (a prescription compound)
- or over the counter mix about equal parts
-- maalox (cherry flavor is best)
--children's liquid benadryl
--then add a little tube of abesol mouth gel

-mix it up, shake well, and have her swish (5 milliliters, which is 1 teaspoonful) it in the mouth and spit it out (swallow occasionally if her throat is sore too) 3 or 4 times a day

-avoid spicey foods
