Disrupting microtubules in malignant cells undergoing mitosis would have the effect of cellular death for both daughter cells. Any malignant cell trying to divide when this drug was present in sufficient amounts would be killed. Making this effect selective for only malignant cells and not normally dividing cells - that would be a neat trick.
